Workshop on Siem Reap River Basin - Development of Master Plan

A Workshop to discuss the Siem Reap River Basin Master Development Draft Plan was organized jointly by Embassy of India, Phnom Penh, Water and Power Consultancy Limited (WAPCOS) and Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology of Royal Government of Cambodia on 10 August 2016 in Phnom Penh.

The Draft Plan has been developed under a grant by Government of India by WAPCOS Ltd. in consultation with MOWRAM and Siem Reap Provincial Authorities. The objective of the preparation of Master Plan is to identify time bound projects for systematic development of Siem Reap River Basin through integrated water resource development.

The Plan will provide concrete recommendation for comprehensive development of Siem Reap River Basin including in the fields of Irrigation Development, Agriculture, Domestic Water supply & Sanitation, Power Development, Flood Control, Hydrology, Road Infrastructure Development, Ground Water Development, Capacity Building and Socio-economic Development.

The Workshop was inaugurated by H.E. Lim Kean Hor, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, H.E. Naveen Srivastava, Ambassador of India to Cambodia, H.E. Khum Bun Sung, Governor of Siem Reap and Ambassador (Retd.) Debnath Shaw, Advisor, WAPCOS Ltd.

The Workshop was attended by representatives of various line Ministries of Cambodia, stakeholders and senior management of WAPCOS. Technical sessions on Hydrology, Drinking Water Supply and Flood Control; Agricultural & Infrastructure Development and Environment, Pisciculture, Socio-Economic and Capacity Building were held during the day. In the closing session, feedback and questions were taken from the participants. The final report will be presented to Royal Government of Cambodia in near future.
