40 Cambodian students have been awarded Indian ICCR

Scholarships for the Academic Year 2023-2024

On Thursday, 27th July 2023, H.E. Dr. Devyani Khobragade, Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Cambodia met with 40 ICCR Scholarship awardees at the Embassy of India’s premises. After Hon’ble Vice President of India visited Cambodia to attend the ASEAN-India Summit held in Phnom Penh in November 2022, the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India has announced the increase of slots (AY 2023-24) in ICCR Scholarship for Cambodian students.

2. 40 Cambodian students have been selected for undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programmes under ICCR scholarships for the Academic Year 2023-2024 from different prestigious universities. The courses include Bachelor in Computer science, Engineering, Political science, Mathematics, Architecture, and many monks and scholars also choose Master in Buddhist studies, and also pursue Research programmes in Buddhist studies and philosophy.

Ambassador Devayni Khobragade in her address shared that studying in India is a wonderful way to expand your knowledge, see the world, improve your intercultural competencies, and gain valuable experience. She also stated that India-Cambodia cultural and historical relations are more than a millennium old when Indian culture , religion and trade emanated out of India and spread rapidly in various parts of South-East Asia. Furthermore, Ambassador continued to add that all students will in terms of language, culture, etc., surely experience the similarity between the two countries.

4. During the program, one live session and three short video clips of Cambodian students, who are studying in India, were displayed for sharing their experience for new comers followed by question-answer sessions.

5. India has one of the most advanced infrastructure for higher education. Indian degrees are treated at par excellence all over the world and professionals who have undertaken higher studies in India have made significant contribution to advanced and applied research in different disciplines all over the world. A number of Indian Institutes for higher studies have come to symbolize academic excellence over these years.

6. There are three principal qualifying degrees within the Indian higher education system, the Bachelors, Masters and the Doctoral levels. Course duration is normally three, two and three or more years, respectively. Shorter duration diploma courses are also available at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Quality education at relatively low cost, variety of courses and close cultural ties between Cambodia and India attract students from Cambodia to study in India. 7. The Embassy of India, Phnom Penh continues to endeavour to encourage more & more students to explore higher education opportunities in India.
