Department of Telecom (DoT) exempts overseas Indians from linking mobile numbers to Aadhaar numbers

Department of Telecom (DoT) has issue a letter to all mobile phone service licensees to use alternative methods to re-verify existing customers belonging to certain categories including foreigners (PIO/OCI cardholders) and NRIs. Since overseas Indians were facing difficulties in operating their mobile connections procured in India as the Telecom operators were insisting on linking them with Aadhaar number, DoT was requested to exempt overseas Indians from linking Aadhaar with their mobile connections and issue advisory to telecom service providers.
