Royal Audience Granted by Cambodian Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihaouk to Ambassador Devyani Khobragade of India and Delegation on June 23, 2023

On June 23, 2023, Cambodian Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihaouk granted a royal audience to Ambassador Devyani Khobragade of India and her delegation. During the meeting, Ambassador Khobragade briefed the Queen Mother on the successful state visit of His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, the King of Cambodia, to India from May 29-31, 2023. Ambassador also extended her wishes to the Queen Mother on behalf of the Indian people and government on the occasion of Her majesty’s 87 th birthday.

The state visit marked the culmination of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Cambodia in 1952. This historic event was the first time in almost six decades that a Cambodian King had visited India since the visit by King Norodom Sihanouk in 1963. During the state visit, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

In the royal audience with Ambassador Khobragade, Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihaouk expressed her gratitude and deep appreciation for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to His Majesty the King during his visit to India. She also highlighted the close bilateral relations between India and Cambodia during the leadership of the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk.

Ambassador Khobragade expressed her pleasure at the fruitful state visit during her ambassadorship and expressed her appreciation for the strong and enduring ties between India and Cambodia. She also reassured the Indian government's efforts towards the development of Cambodia and significant role that India has played in promoting peace and stability in the region. Ambassador also presented gifts to Her Majesty on behalf of the honorable speaker of India H.E Mr. Om Birla and her own behalf.

The royal audience and the state visit reflect the strong spirit of friendship and partnership between India and Cambodia, which will continue to thrive and prosper in the years to come.
