Inauguration of toilet blocks (latrines) built with India’s financial assistance

Ambassador of India Her excellency Manika Jain, along with H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister of Women’s Affairs, attended on 22 February 2019 the inauguration ceremony of Toilet Blocks (Latrines) at Tean Primary School, Dangkor District, Phnom Penh.

Government of India has financed US$ 50,000 under Government of India’sQuick Impact Projects for construction of these toilet blocks at three Primary and Secondary Schools located in the Suburbs of Phnom Penh and Kandal province. The project was implemented by Ministry of Women Affairs of Kingdom of Cambodia. The construction of the toilet blocks have been completed successfully.

Lack of proper toilet facilities has often been a problem in these schools when students avoid going to school. Now the construction of these new toilets with better hygiene and sanitation conditions will immensely benefit around 1500 students especially the girl students in these schools.

Under Mekong Ganga Cooperation initiative, beginning from 2015-16 India has been assisting Cambodia with small Socio-Economic projects known as Quick Impact Projects in the fields of agriculture, health, women empowerment, capacity building, sanitation, environment and information technology etc., every year. From the year 2017-18, Indian assistance is being provided for ten such projects in a year. These Projects have received overwhelming response and created a distinct and visible impact among beneficiaries.
