Signing Ceremony of 18 MOUs on  Quick Impact Project (QIP)

 

            Embassy of India will be signing 18 MoUs on Quick Impact Projects in Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation on 19th June 2019. The signing ceremony will be held in presence of H.E. Luy David, Secretary of State, MoFA and H.E. Manika Jain, Ambassador of India to Cambodia, senior officials of MOFA and Embassy Officials.

 

            These 18 MoUs currently being signed will cover six projects under Ministry of Health; four projects under Ministry of Rural Development; two projects under Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology; two projects under Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications; two projects under Ministry of Women Affairs;  one project under Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts  and one project under Ministry of Environment.

 

            Govt. of India has various engagement programmes with Cambodia including assistance programmes for socio-economic development of Cambodia. One such programme is Quick Impact Programme (QIP) under the framework of Mekong Ganga Cooperation. These are short gestation period projects and supposed to be completed within one year. India has been providing assistance since 2015-16, when 5 QIPs were implemented in a year. Since 2018, these have been increased to 10 QIPs per year.

 

            With the signing of these 18 MoUs, the total number of projects executed and committed from 2016 onwards by India will be 34 amounting to a total of USD 1.7 million in the fields of agriculture, health, women empowerment, capacity building, sanitation and environment  and so on.  These projects have received overwhelming response and created a distinct and visible impact among the beneficiaries.  The Government of India will continue to support and collaborate with the Royal Government of Cambodia under the Mekong Ganga Cooperation framework.

 

            The other initiatives under the framework are MGC Scholarships for Cambodian students to undertake Graduate, Post Graduate, Ph.D degrees in any of the Indian universities since 2006 onwards. At present, there are 10 scholarships offered every year amounting to USD 368,000 annually. Also, India has constructed Mekong Ganga Cooperation Asian Traditional Textile (MGCATT) Museum in Siem Reap with a total of over USD 2.1 million and has been assisting in the management and running of the Museum.
