A Culinary Journey from India to Cambodia

On 20 December, 2021, the  Embassy of India in Cambodia, celebrated  the festival of lights, Diwali, in the form of “ A Culinary journey from India to Cambodia, in association with Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Indian Association Cambodia, India’s renowned chef Mr. Ranveer Brar and Anicca, a Cambodian NGO. The event was held at  the Fine Dining Cambodian Kravanh Restaurant.  The function was graced by H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister Women’s Affairs,  HRH Norodom Chansita, HRH Sisowath Tesso, senior officials from Cambodian Government, Ambassadors of Diplomatic Missions, renowned Cambodian chefs and many other guests from different walks of life.

  1. The event commenced with the opening remarks by Dr. Devyani Khobragade, Ambassador of India, thanking the gathering for attending this event. Ambassador underlined the significance of the Diwali festival in India and the strong cultural linkages between India and Cambodia. Ambassador further dwelled upon on commonalities between Indian and Cambodian cuisines and India’s strategic location in the international spices trade route, from where spices and herbs travelled between and through Europe and South East Asia, including Cambodia. Ambassador stated that this event underscores the strong culinary linkages between two countries.
  2. The highlight of the event was a video film, shown to the gathering, in which Mr. Ranveer Brar along with Mr. Kakada ,  his Cambodian counterpart, attempt to create the same dish with inspiration from ingredients used in each other countries. It also featured an interview with  Dr. Ang Chou Leang, renowned Professor of Royal  University of Fine Arts, who spoke about  rural cuisine.
  3. The guests were treated to the fusion dish along with other exotic Indian dishes , giving a taste of the North( Mughal influence) as well as the cuisine from South and East of India.
